A Modern Learning Space in the Heart of the Peak District

Nestled on the edge of the Peak District National Park, Wincle Church of England Primary School serves a small rural community surrounded by rolling fields and a close-knit village environment. The school’s existing nursery building had become outdated, a little tired, and no longer fit for purpose.

The brief was clear: create a bright, modern, and energy-efficient nursery that reflected the school’s ethos of outdoor-inspired learning, while sitting naturally within its rural surroundings. The project also needed to be delivered as a turnkey solution within the school’s summer break to avoid disruption, from demolition to handover.

The Solution

TF Jackson delivered a bespoke modular nursery building designed, manufactured, and fitted out at our Whaley Bridge facility before being transported to site for final installation. This off-site approach enabled the majority of construction to take place in a controlled environment, ensuring efficiency, cost savings, and minimal disruption to the school.

Led by Head of Projects, Gareth Walton, the TF Jackson team provided a single point of contact throughout, giving the school full confidence that every detail, from groundwork to final finishes, was managed seamlessly.

Key elements of the turnkey package included:

  • Full demolition and site clearance of the existing structure
  • Groundworks, drainage and foundations
  • Landscaping, including a patio area and DDA-compliant access ramps
  • Red cedar timber cladding to complement the rural setting and blend naturally with the landscape
  • Timber canopy and perspex roof providing a sheltered outdoor play area
  • Picket fencing to create a secure, enclosed environment for children

Inside The Building

Every detail of the new nursery was designed to support safe, engaging early-years learning:

  • Bespoke layout created to meet the school’s exact requirements
  • Dedicated kitchen area, securely gated from the main play space
  • Child-friendly wall-mounted heaters for safety and comfort
  • Secure storage and a staff management office
  • PVC double-glazed tilt-and-turn windows to maximise natural light and ventilation
  • Child-sized toilets with magnetic doors, low-height fittings, and eco-flush systems
  • Sinks with thermostatic taps for temperature safety
  • Fire alarm systems and safety locks throughout

Delivered On Time, With No Disruption

The entire project, from initial brief to final handover, was completed during the school’s summer holidays. Thanks to TF Jackson’s modular construction process, site time was dramatically reduced, allowing Wincle Primary to return for the new term with a fully operational, ready-to-use nursery building.

The Result

The finished nursery classroom is a bright, welcoming, and energy-efficient space that perfectly complements its countryside surroundings. The combination of natural timber finishes and contemporary modular design has created a building that feels both modern and in harmony with its environment, an inspiring space where children can learn, play, and grow.

For the school, the turnkey approach meant total peace of mind. With one point of contact managing every stage, the leadership team could focus on their pupils while TF Jackson handled the detail.
